As you already know, he had the most contagious personality, as do all of you guys! I loved spending time in your home, and would just laugh at how you all meshed so well with each other, and I would laugh pretty much the entire time I was there! I cannot thank you all enough for all the wonderful memories I have in my heart of all the time spent with your amazing family during the good times at LHS. Dan was one of my best friends. We were able to spend so much time together throughout high school not only because we were in office together, but because through that association we were able to build a friendship that lasted. We would talk on the phone for hours, and when we were in college I loved meeting him up at school, or going to each others houses to talk. He loved to go to my parents house to sit in the hot tub, and my parents actually came home and found him there a couple of times without me! They loved it, and loved him as a dear, dear friend. I never knew of anyone that did not love Dan instantaneously. He could make friends with a 4 year old just as easy as a 70 year old! My family loved having him around, and admired his genuine love for people and his incredible ability to make everyone happy.

I always looked forward to Dan's phone calls where he would describe and tell the funniest stories about the people he worked with, and the experiences he was having with them. I wanted to include the following email that he wrote to me while working at the Ritz Carlton in Cali. It isn't anything spectacular, but to me it illustrates the fun Dan that we all loved, and his witty sense of humor. Also, he is referring to Boris and one of the Asian ladies that he worked with that he found hilarious, and I love this email because their legacy lives on! He would tell me stories of them, and I would tell my roommates, etc… and to this day people will "quote" things to me from stories that Dan would tell! I think that "AAABEEEEBO BehMan" will never die, and I am sure he shared that story with you all as well! I need a lot of big deep breaths. My mind is going through images of
your house in azusa, your roommates, the pool table, your room, your
playlist, your posters, your basket of freshly-laundered towels (I still
don't get it!!!), your curly hair, your littly tooshy, your smile and your
laughter. I don't want to sound cliche, AT ALL, but really, I have such
vivid memories of your laughter and smile, maybe because that's what I saw
the most of!

Some of my favorite memories of you, which I hope are some of your favorites
of us:

Driving up to Julian for some apple pie, but finding the "Cats Cats CATS!"
store instead. I still have that picture...MEOW!
Playing pool...again and again, until i won! (well, until you let me
believe I won fair and square)
Laying on your big bed just listening to so many new songs....
Inviting you over to our mod, only to dress up with becky in the ugliest
clothes we could find and give you a care package to get you better again!
you were so unamused...
Watching Spinal Tap until it was unhealthy for any normal person. maybe
eleven times...
Going to the Huntington Library and playing cards in the grass. "FER DA
DUCKS!"

The memories go on, as I am sure they do for many of you who knew dan. but
to dan: i will forever guard closely the time I shared with you. I count it
such a privilege that you let me in to your world as you did. You were
honest with me. You let me see you as you were. You laughed with me. You
loved me. You valued me. You listened to me. You cared for me. And I
cried with you. I struggled through tough questions with you. I laughed
till my face hurt with you. I made up jokes with you. I ached with you.
I lived more fully with you in my life.

Thank you Daniel James Boatwright. Thank you for showing me how to laugh,
how to love, how to live. Thank you for sharing your life with mine. I
will never let our memories die.

One Step at a time

It took me so long to write, because Im still at a loss for words. Dan and I only knew each other from high school. We rarely hung out but we shared the same friends, which wasn't hard to do, because he was friends with every one. My memories of him are all cheerful. He was one of the few guys around that never did anything that made me question his character. He treated all people with respect. It keeps running through my mind why he had to pass early from this life. His heart was so big and so full of love, I'm sorry for your loss. I also know that wherever god takes away, he replaces somewhere else in other ways. I pray that the tender mercies of the lord may be apparent to you in your life and that you may be able to find some peace through this great trial you have been given. "The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but he that endureth to the end shall be saved." {see Ecclesiastes 9:11; Matthew 10:22; Mark 13:13}
<F  ONT size=3>
To become a winner in the race for eternal life requires effort, constant work, striving, and enduring well with gods help. But the key is that we must take it just one step at a time. I know that you have the most amazing people who love you all so very much. You will not have to suffer in silence. We are ALL here for you. Im so sorry again for your loss. "Our hearts are heavy and sad, but our souls are of good cheer." You have been blessed with this great trial, I say "blessed" because as much as we have all lost by Dan passing, we have so much to learn, and such a great example to grow from. He will never be forgotten.

"All of us, in our own small way, have experienced the transforming power of a great emotional shock. It searches the soul, it opens up the mind to its foundations, it rearranges all the courses of nature and sets things going in an entirely different direction. It is hard, but it is wholesome. It shakes out the dross from the mind, and makes men bigger and better." -Author unknown

Im a big fan of the Boatwright fam! This probably isn't surprising to most people, but it was surprising for me because I haven't talked to Dan since I moved away from Logan 9 years ago. We lost touch but suddenly he was at the forefront of my mind.
It shocked my body and jarred my memory to hear about him leaving this world for a better place. I remember playing basketball with him after school, mountain biking, freshman football (remember that guys?), participating in our Church youth group activites and of course his funny appearances in most school activities (including just walking down the hallways).
But, the biggest thing I remember was the energy that he seemed to radiate. Most everyone had to feel it. He gave you that extra bit of energy, confidence or maybe even courage to extend yourself a little bit further from what you were used to and be happy with it. I felt like I wasn't shy around anyone when I was with him. It seemed I could talk to or interact with anyone and not feel self conscious or out of place. Not many people can do that, that truly is a gift. This is what I'll remember most but more importantly carry with me throughout life.

Justin Joerger
Overland Park, KS

Big D

We just heard of Dan’s passing and wanted to write a brief message. The one thing that stand’s out most as we talk about Dan was that he was such a genuinely nice guy. He was good friends with everyone in every different group and always made everyone feel welcome. He was always so much fun and could always make everyone laugh. We are just happy that he was able to see Tyra get her own show. We love Dan and he will be missed.

Jeff and Kathleen Reece

Dallas, TX

Doesn't Seem to Work Any More

I am not sure why the email post doesn't seem to work anymore. Both of our Moms worked at Woodruff, Dan attended there, and I would go work for my mom organizing books during the summer when they were still in year around school. Who would have thought back then that Dan Boatwright would become one of my very best friends. (Now I know everyone else thinks he was their best friend too and it's probably true, that's just the kind of person he was, he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world to him.) Our life moved onto 6th grade at Mount Logan Middle School. Now let's talk about having guts as a 6th grader, Dan came to my house and up to my door and personally brought me chocolates and the sweetest Valentines Day card ever. Now if we all remember the days of 6th grade, even when you were going together you never talked to each other, let alone ask someone out in person - that was always something you had your friends do for you, but not Dan, he was a real man, even back in 6th grade!

Okay, let's talk about the best class of my entire school career! Mrs. Cottle's 9th grade Geography class! Dan, Melodie and I were just too much together. Mrs. Cottle's seating chart was set up alphabetically, and it just panned out that Dan, Melodie and I were all in that back left corner. Oh the trouble we caused her! (Let's be honest, the trouble was Dan cracking jokes and Melodie and I laughing and egging him on even more, it was awesome!) Now, I know we were her favorite students because she really would laugh at us (more like Dan) on occasion, but, we just talked too much, and liked each other too much.....so.....she moved us to each corner, to be as far away from each other as possible....Unfortunately, it was still pretty close together, you just had to raise your voice a little bit louder. Mrs. Cottle did send me a wedding gift though...so she didn't hate us forever!

Days at Logan High with Daniel James were priceless. Starting with Freshman class office all the way up to SBO's our Senior year. If it weren't for Dan, oh how our skits would have sucked! and if it weren't for Dan, our meetings could have been a lot shorter,...but definitely not as fun! If it weren't for Dan we wouldn't have had those beautifully creative signs he would make....oh wait, that was his sisters that were real creative, but if I can remember right, Dan did make a few interesting ones, and of course we couldn't have even put them up if it wasn't for our tall glass of water! Great memories from those Sunday Night Decoratings! Okay, can we please laugh really hard for a second and think about Dan's SBO election video! Anybody, please remind me what the title was DB1 or DB something, anyways, it was a play off of Calvin Klein's advertisements that were black and white and would show models in suductive(sp) poses and saying a sophisticated word. So that's what Dan did, he wore a black turtleneck, took shots of him all over Logan High, and oh the faces he'd pull! I know it's those suductive faces that won him Homecoming King! It made the girls go wild! If anyone has a copy of that, or any of his other classic videos I'd sure love to see them again!

Dan really does have a heart of gold. When I think back on his life, he is a hard one to explain...because he wasn't your typical guy. There wasn't a specific "group" that you could place him in, because he seriously was just everyone's friend. Whether you were a jock, a skater, a techi, a music person, a friend from the old neighborhood, a teacher, a lunch lady or an average Joe, you didn't just know Dan, but he really was your friend, and he cared about you. It was really neat to see the relationship that he had with his family. During those high school years it is so easy to get caught up in your own life and your friends and being cool that you don't think about spending time with your family, but you could tell that that was the time that Dan cherished the most. What a riot to be in that Boatwright home, with all of those hilarious personalities just feeding off each other! Sarah, you gave a great description of what it's like to hug Dan, shoving your face into his chest. He was the funnest person to hug!...and you could count on getting several of his hugs whenever you saw him! Do you all remember the poems and odes that he would write? Well, he wrote a few for me and I just ripped my house apart to find them, but I must have put them in such a secret place I hid them from myself...but I kept those odes in my purse for years and years and would pull them out everytime I needed a laugh or a smile.

Even after high school when we got doing others things, everytime we'd see each other our relationship had never skipped a beat. I can not believe that sweet Daniel James is gone. It really makes you realize how precious life is. I care about him and love him soo much. I wish I could go back a few years and talk to him more and see him more. Why do we let life get in the way of our relationships with the ones we love. Boatwright family, Cache Valley misses you soo much. Everytime I drive past that cute red brick house on 2nd East I think of you all. Please know that we are all thinking about you and praying for you. You have no idea the love that is had for you coming straight out of Cache Valley. Thank you for putting this blog together, I've needed a way to share my thoughts about that wonderful Dan and I've needed even more to hear them from other people. I don't know how to finish this up, but I guess I'll just promise to take Becky's challenge to carry on the goodness that Daniel James so easily showed to us. Chris, you sweet sweet mother, I've been thinking the most about you. I could have been such a better friend to your son, but please know how much I love him. You are an amazing person and have raised such amazing children. I know we can all see Dan again and that he's in a better place. You're so lucky to have those wonderful daughters by your side. I love you and your family and wish you peace and comfort during this time and in the future. Take care. What a guy!
I am a friend of Sarah's from Logan High School. My heart broke when
I heard of Dan's death. I love the Boatwrights and hate to think of
them hurting. Please know that people are praying for you and loving
you all over the globe.
I had many enjoyable, entertaining moments with Dan when I would be
visiting Sarah and her family. I can picture in my mind sitting in
Chris's kitchen chatting with Sarah, when Dan would come in, throw an
arm around Sarah's shoulder and start talking in some wild accent.
Hilarious! He was really something, you know?
Dan, you brightened my day. You were a blast to run into morning,
noon or night. You sure made a lot of people happy here on earth. My heart skipped
a couple beats...only to realize that it was not you, nor will it ever be
you. Oh my sweet Danny how I miss you and long to see you so desperately.
How can I do this without you?

Dan, the thing is...I love and adore you more than words could ever
explain. And forutnately/unfortunately I don't know my life apart from
you. I will never know my life apart from you. And so it just makes life
unbearable...because you aren't here. How does this happen? You came into
my heart and did something to it that I will never understand and now I
have to deal with the repercussions, for better or for worse, the
indescribable goodness that you planted in it. Being your little sister
and walking 2 steps behind you my 24 years of life I have learned things
that some people will never learn in their lifetime. The way in which you
lived your life...people envy becuase they think that a degree earns it,
or that money could buy it...but they are silly, aren't they? It was just
you being you. And what a indescribably beautiful thing that was.

D-man, You taught me to love without limits no matter the person, to look
people in the eye when you talk to them and sincerely want to know when
asking how there day went, to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, to
laugh at life...myself. Very few people can actually do this or would dare
to and I am realizing that more and more each day. I learned that money
only goes so far...to think outside the box in regards to politics, music,
religion, what is truly humorous and what is not...I learned to love and
love some more and then when all else fails...to keep on loving.

You are a joy to me beyond measure and I praise our God who is holding you
right now. You are my everything...when all else failed around me (us) in
this world...you were my stronghold.
I need you buddy. I can't do this without you...just be close to me and
remind me of your presence. Remind me of your goodness...
I promise to live your legacy...I promise to love my kids like you loved
me. I promise to listen and love no matter the circumstances.
Love you D...can't wait to be reunited again real soon.

all my love,
B-

Probably the greatest honor of my life will be holding the title of being
Dan Boatwright's younger sister. What an honor to be able to learn, grow
and become the person that I am under the greatest human being that I have
ever known. He did the things in life that sometimes we are so bad at.
Like speaking kind words and meaning it to everyone around him...even his
enemies(if he had any), smiling at strangers, having patience with
life...his heart, respecting others and humbling himself so that others
could be honored. Listening, I mean really listening to people when they
talk. Giving all that he had...whether it be hugs, money, kind words, a
listening ear, patience, jokes...he loved to give and give and keep on
giving. My brother defined love at its finest...simply put.

So here's my plea...
Please, anyone that reads this...please, oh please...carry on this
goodness. It is so simple and yet we are so bad at it sometimes in this
crazy world...but remember that you have the capabilities to do this. And
you can give and contribute to this world just like Dan Boatwright did and
it will be a better place because of it. And it is simple, little things
each day that make life better.
Two other plugs that I feel the need to say...Please, get your heart
checked with your cardiologist...often.
Please be an educated voter...know what is going on in the world and take
action. You make a difference!
If any one of you ever wants to talk and remember the goodness of Daniel
James Boatwright...I would be honored to hear from you.
BeckyBoatwright@BestBuddies.org
(541)231-5952
Love you all...

To my dear nephew Dan

I am blessed that I made the decision to move here a year ago, when Dan was with Chris here in Corvallis. I have been able to spend so much time with Dan so recently in his life.

As we have shared so many stories about Dan during this last week, especially about his amazing ability to interact with so many people in all aspects of life, I can picture him out there, being the good host, the charming public relations person. So often when we meet that type of person, the words that come to mind are "slick" and "rehearsed" and more often than not, "eeuhh". Those words never came to mind with Dan. Dan loved talking to strangers and they surely knew that. He was true and genuine with everyone he knew and met.

In my difficulty in comprhending that this being, this physical presence, this sweet boy I could wrap my arms all the around is gone, I am not comforted by the thought that "he will live on in our memories". I need more than that. I will have the image of our son, nephew, grandson, cousin, friend and stranger greeting us and saying, "Hello, I am Daniel James Boatwright. I am happy to know you. Oh, and here, please have this part of me."

So we all have this part, this package, this gift we hold and cherish. And when we are together and opening and sharing our gift, the words we will hear most will be, "You think that's funny! Look at mine!"

What a guy!
I am a friend of Sarah's from Logan High School. My heart broke when
I heard of Dan's death. I love the Boatwrights and hate to think of
them hurting. Please know that people are praying for you and loving
you all over the globe.
I had many enjoyable, entertaining moments with Dan when I was
visiting with Sarah and her family in those good 'ol high school days. I can
picture in my mind sitting in Chris's kitchen chatting with Sarah,
when Dan would come in, throw an arm around Sarah's shoulder and
start talking in some wild accent. Hilarious! He was really
something, you know?
Dan, you brightened my day. You were a blast to run into morning,
noon or night. You sure made a lot of people happy here on earth. I
envision you making the angels laugh up above.
I'm thinking of you, Chris, Sarah, Kate, Becky AND Dan. What a family.
I love you all.
--Molly (Whitesides) Johnson

Logan, UT
(435) 753-5329

Danny B!

Dan was my roommate for about 2 years while I was in college. 4 of us shared a house for those couple of years, and it was a really good time. Dan was a great roommate; laidback, easy going, fun to talk to and hang out with. And yet always up for a fiery discussion on politics or religion.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =  "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Family was always very important to Dan. I remember once when he went home for Christmas. He was so excited to be going, and when he came back he couldn’t stop talking about how much it meant to him to be home with his family. He talked about how when he arrived, his niece had made a sign that said, “Christmas can start now; Dan is here.” “That was just what I needed”, he said. He kept repeating that as he relayed the whole trip. I figured it was only a matter of time before he decided to move closer to his family, and of course he eventually did.

I hung out with Dan once while he was up in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Corvallis, when I was in town coaching at a debate tournament. But then this summer Dan moved up to Seattle, where I happened to be living for the summer as well. I’ll forever be grateful to have been blessed with that last summer spending time with him up there. Probably my most memorable Dan story from the summer was the day we went to watch a morning World Cup game between England and Sweden in this wild Irish pub downtown. Now, unlike Dan, who used to work mornings at the Ritz and often had to be up at <st1:time Hour="5" Minute="0">5 a.m.</st1:time>, I am not a morning person. But the game started at 8, and Dan woke me up and convinced me to drag myself out of bed and go down there and meet him. The game was a blast, and England won (actually I think it was a tie, but Sweden needed a win, so a tie was good enough). We’d been throwing back quite a few beers to collect as many commemorative World Cup glasses as we could (all of which he managed to make me forget at his apartment I might add, including my coveted Czech Republic glass!), so when the game ended at about 11 am we were sufficiently happy.

We got on the metro, and went back to his apartment. Before too long, Dan had kicked into his passionate and energetic voice as he went off about his latest kick; Bob Dylan. He had Dylan’s autobiography, put on a Dylan record, and was just going on and on about how great Dylan was. “If you’re going to get into anything,” he raved, “get into Dylan!” Well, my dad loves Bob Dylan, so I told Dan we should call my Dad so he could share his newfound Dylan obsession with him. Of course, at <st1:time Hour="11" Minute="30">11:30 am</st1:time> my dad was at work, so we called him there. Dan opened with a, “What’s up Mr. McBirney! I’m here with Jimmy, and I’m trying to get him into Dylan!” And with that, Dan was back off on his Dylan rant.

My Dad had met Dan on a number of occasions. He’d met him at the house, and he also ran in to him a couple times when Dan was the concierge at the Ritz and my Dad and Mom were there for dinner. Like everyone, my Dad always liked Dan. But he had only experienced the laid-back, playful and friendly Dan. He had never had an opportunity to hear Dan in his passionate mode. I took the phone after Dan was finished, and my Dad seemed in good spirits and amused. But later that night when I talked to him, my Dad asked me, “Was Dan on drugs today?” Dan got a kick out of that when I told him the next day.

I want to share two emails Dan sent me during the past year. A little background: I send out a “law school digest” every so often to a select group of friends and family, that gives updates on my law school adventures and antics. Both of these emails were responses to one of those. The first is a small snapshot of Dan’s wit and humor…

(<st1:date Month="2" Day="3" Year="2006">February 3rd, 2006</st1:date>)

We meet again. Friendships, relationships with family; all the things most of us regularly just take for granted. He had a passion for “bigger” issues that affect people as well, such as politics and international relations (Be an INFORMED VOTER!!). But he was not the type of person who would get so caught up in those “bigger” things that affect people on such a large scale that he would forget to love the people around him.

I get a daily quote everyday in my email, and the day before I learned of Dan’s passing, the quote was this one by Mother Theresa: “What matters most is not what you do, but how much love you do it with.” The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Dan may not have pursued a big career, and he may never be mentioned in history books… but he did the things he did with love, dedication and sincerity. That is reflected by all the people who hardly knew him, and yet are deeply feeling his loss. My mom, for example, had only met Dan on a few occasions. But when I told her he had passed away, she cried out, “I loved Dan!” and burst into tears.

I have a lot of big goals for my life, aimed at bettering the world on a large scale. But one thing I know I’m guilty of is sometimes being so focused on pursuing the steps to get there that I forget to do what I can to better the lives of the people around me now. Dan’s passing is a stark reminder that no matter how young and how healthy we are, we can be taken from this world at anytime. If I died today, all those plans for the future I am working toward would mean absolutely nothing. All that would count is what I’ve done so far. I wonder what that is… but with Dan there is no question. He improved the lives of everyone he touched through his kindness, compassion, and integrity (not to mention his classic sense of humor). His 25 years, though far too short, were used by him well. His legacy will be that through the example of how he lived his life, he urged the hundreds of people who knew him to view people in the best light, to truly love and care for others without precondition, and to always make the extra effort to ensure people know they are loved, cared for and valued. We can never trace how far that ripple effect will extend in the world… but just because it can’t be traced or written about in history books doesn’t mean Dan’s life won’t profoundly change the world.

Rest in peace my friend. You will be forever missed.

- “Jimbo Slims”

With his passing..

Although we never had a chance to meet, I feel as though I have known
you for many years. As a friend of Kate's I have heard many stories
of not only Logan, but Corvallis and beyond. Just with hearing the
passion and love she has for you more than describes to me how amazing
you are, and how loved you will always be. You have been a very
special, and most unique man in many people's lives. I want to
express my regret for not formally knowing you, but can only hope to
meet someday.

As for the family and close friends, I am truly sorry for his passing.
It is remarkable how incredibly loved he has, and will continue to
forever be. The greatest love and compassion is one that begins with
a family as great as yours. It radiates and flourishes with every
moment. You all are an inspiration to me. She and I were very awkward, not so cute, kind of chubby but you always made me feel like I was beautiful even if the 16 and 17 year old boys thought I was big and hairy! I can think back to many memories that I was so lucky to have with you. Once I was waiting for Bec to come home from somewhere and you waited with me for about an hour. Not because you had to but because you wanted to. We sat together on the front porch of the old Logan house making fun of every car that passed by. It was a game you liked to play. I didn't understand at first but you slowly explained the rules of the game and we entertained ourselves for a good hour. Or should I say, you entertained me for a good hour.
Dan was my roommate for about 2 years while I was in college. 4 of us shared a house for those couple of years, and it was a really good time. Dan was a great roommate; laidback, easy going, fun to talk to and hang out with. And yet always up for a fiery discussion on politics or religion.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =  "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Now, unlike Dan, who used to work mornings at the Ritz and often had to be up at <st1:time Minute="0" Hour="5">5 a.m.</st1:time>, I am not a morning person.

Of course, at <st1:time Minute="30" Hour="11">11:30 am</st1:time> my dad was at work, so we called him there.

(<st1:date Year="2006" Day="3" Month="2">February 3rd, 2006</st1:date>)

My Dearest Dan

Dan,
For so many years you were the man in my life. There are so many memories that have overwhelmed me these last few days it's almost hard to keep them separate. Before you left, I hope you realized a few things. Like the fact that I absolutely adore you. I was always in awe of your spirit. Never have I met someone so magnetic. Wherever you were people wanted to be. Never have I met someone as creative as you. I would always brag and tell people that my brother would one day write for Saturday Night Live. I still think your skit about the hobo is money! (Unfortunately, it is not appopriate for this blog but I'll tell you if you ask me personally) Never have I met someone as compassionate as you. As us girls have decided your life motto always was, "As Is". You accepted everyone for exactly who they were.

Dan our conversations aren't done, this is just a neat one that our loved ones get to listen in on. We will always talk and I will let you know how much I love and miss you. Ryan will know her uncle. And don't worry, I will encourage her humor and teach her the importance of an educated vote!

I miss you buddy. I want to scratch your big long back and shove my face into your chest as we hug. I'm not sure how I'll get through this, but please know we will always be Kate, Sarah, Dan, Becky. Get things ready up there buddy. We will see you soon. Sarah had invited the volleyball team over to your house to load up on carbs before a big game (which we probably lost because I could never set the ball to Sarah correctly...but this is about you, not me). You stole the show when you seductively approached Liz and Maria's little brother and said "Hey big boy...," while doing a little dance. Very impressive. Thank you for that memory. I wish I could have gotten to know you better.

Sarah, Kate, Chris, Becky, I love you. You are all amazing women and I miss you. Sarah, I honestly have volleyball flashbacks all the time. Particularly your constantly-singing voice. Celine Dion, whatever, it never mattered. You are incredible.

Dan Boatwright started out as just a roommate in an unfamiliar house but quickly became one of the best friends I would ever have. Few people in life were constantly as happy as Dan was. It was almost infectious, you could not be around Dan and not be happy. Not that Dan never got upset or got down, but you knew when he did that it was something serious. Whether it was playing cards, golfing, drinking beers or just hanging out Dan was a great guy to do it with. I shared a lot of great experience with Dan, some that need never go farther than he and I. Dan was always there to lend a helping hand. One of the many things Dan did for me was helping me get a job working with him at the Ritz-Carlton. I use to love to work with Dan because no matter how crappy a day at work was for either of us I could count on Dan to crack a joke or suggest getting beers after work. Dan knew how to not let the little things affect everything else. I use to go the racetrack with Dan a lot and on occasion with his father as well. Dan never considered himself an expert gambler but no matter how much bad advice I gave, and he took, he never once blamed me for a loss. It was those times just sitting at the track that I will always remember best about Dan. He would tell stories of how he used to go when his dad trained horses. As anyone who knew Dan probably knows Dan had a flare for telling great stories. He could make you feel like you were right there. Dan will forever be missed by me and so many more. He was a friend to everyone. I don't think there was one person at school who didn't love Dan! My favorite thing about Dan was he was ALWAYS himself! High School is full of impersonators, but Dan was fearlessly himself and that's another reason everyone respected him and wished they could be a little more like him. He was a true Christian, with a pure love
for everyone no matter who they were. I always looked up to him for this.

Being in Dan's group for the Sweetheart's dance was awesome! To complete our murder mystery dinner we all wore 70's clothes while everyone else was dressed up in formals! Dan of course stole the show! I remember when our group walked in the DJ played four disco songs in a row and Dan's dance moves were the best!

Mr. Grizz was hilarious as Dan's talent was impersonating Madonna, complete with a cone bra. I felt so lucky to chosen as a male backup dancer for the
material girl! That was a great night! I still think he should have won!

I remember how excited I was when Dan asked me to Senior Ball! The theme was Hollywood and the guys planned everything to the tee. Dan and I were respectively Screech and Lisa Turtle and his antics were hilarious. Even the way he asked me to the dance had Dan written all over it, literally. He sent me a newspaper titled the pelican brief with funny articles about life at school. It was definitely my favorite dance in High School because I was lucky enough to go as Dan's date.

In college it was harder to keep in touch, but I was able to visit with Dan when I was in Logan and he lived in a house on 2nd East. We made a newsletter once entitled She Said, He Said?! that should have been published!

When I got married and my husband and I moved out to Hawaii I lost contact with Dan and many other Logan High friends unfortunately. But I always thought of Dan and knew wherever he was he would be making people smile. I
still think he's doing just that.

Dan I Love You Always!

Your Friend,

Karla Christiansen
Columbus AFB, Mississippi
karlachristiansen@hotmail.com

My thoughts are with you Dan....

Dan,
The first time I met you Jer and I were going over to your house to bring you your costume for the Christmas assembly. I did not get through it once without laughing. That's what you were best at in my opinion...making people laugh. I also always remember the day I assault-hugged you outside of the Chili's in Logan. I don't know how neither of us got injured! I'm glad we were able to reconnect over these
last few months. The miracles of myspace...those were by far the funniest messages I ever got! The first memory of you I have was at a 6th grade birthday party/dance. Instead of dancing you decided to play ring-around-the rosy! I felt a little out of place at the party and you invited me to "dance" with you. Since that day, I felt like I had a true friend who looked out for me. Some of my favorite memories of you were "going out together", Freshman class officers, Mock Trial, Sweethearts Dance (How to Host a Murder) and especially our times as S.B.O’s.

I remember you trying to pull together last minute assignments, always last minute! :-) I remember trying to keep you motivated to continuing going to class! I remember when you and Bair decorated Mrs. Dunn’s office with Ode’s and treats to all the girl S.B.O’s. I love the video that you/Scott, Anthony, Jarom, and Jeff put together to say "yes" for a date dance. I can picture you interacting with Kate and hear you saying her name in Mock Trial. I remember you being so concerned about Becky when she ran for office. You REALLY adored your family.

The last time I saw you was at Stacey’s wedding. I am so glad that we both made it to have a last chat! I love you buddy!

Becky, Kate and Sarah- I hope you are hanging in there. Know that I am thinking of you.

Love

Holly Andrews Barrick

Cedar City, Utah

435-865-6678

Access over 1 million songs - Yahoo! Between your sisters by blood and your sisters by friendship you brought laughter to us all. With six little girls running around you always were game for anything. From sledding down Old Main Hill to High School dances you were always there with us. To post to this is very simple. All you need to do is send an email to the following address - danboat.shabadoo@blogger.com - The subject that you give the email will be the title of the blog entry. Then you write your message or memory and send the email. It will then be posted to the blog automatically.

If you would like to post a picture or something you will need to email it to Andy as asirish@gmail.com. Give me your name and title of your already posted blog and I will put the picture with it. Or if you just want a picture only I can create an entry with just the Pic.

Voice Message
Maybe you would do better telling a story. If you would like to do this you may call the following number- 1.800.749.0632 - This is a place called Gabcast. A voice will ask you for a channel number...it is 4102...then you will be asked for a password...1234...then press 1 to create a new episode. Record your message and then you will press # and listen for directions on how to publish the message (press 2).

Your voice recording will be posted directly to this blog. If you would please send Andy an email- asirish@gmail.com - with your name and a title you would like to give the blog as well as the time you posted (so I can figure out which one is yours) that would be great. Or if you want to re-record your message I can remove the old one.

If you have any questions about this blog or how to edit something just let me know. This is for Dan and he would want you to tell his stories. And his family would love to hear how Dan touched so many lives.

We will miss you Dan...your memories will live in our hearts!!!
